The Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology Discipline (MCP) is an interdisciplinary division that brings together about 23 scientific staff, many of whom work in areas related to drug design and discovery. The scientific areas encompassed by MCP members are very diverse, ranging from cancer, to regulation of metabolism and neuroscience. The Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology explores how cells communicate, interact and enable complex physiological function.. Our labs take an interdisciplinary approach, with an emphasis on quantitative and structural approaches drawn from multiple scientific disciplines, including structural biology, biophysics, cell biology, immunology and neuroscience.

GABA B receptors, which are always inhibitory, are coupled to G proteins. Less is known about the GABA B receptor, primarily due to the limited number of pharmacological agents selective for this site. Originally, GABA B receptors were identified by their insensitivity to the GABA A antagonist bicuculline and certain GABA A-specific agonists [1,10].The GABA analog (−)baclofen (β-(4-chloro Cited by: “Pharmacology in drug discovery: understanding drug response” by T. Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology was established in to meet the demand for integrated publication on all aspects related to the genetic and biochemical effects, synthesis and secretions of extracellular signals (hormones, neurotransmitters, etc.) and to the understanding of cellular regulatory mechanisms involved in hormonal control.. The journal is fulfilling this aim by publishing. Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology Curriculum Find information for MCP Program Course Requirements and all courses in The Guide. The MCP Program is designed as an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary program consisting of over 80 trainers.

The Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology Graduate Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has been ranked in the top twelve Pharmacology Programs nationwide, reflecting the outstanding teaching and research quality of its members.

The Program is based in the Basic Science Departments of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Pharmacology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of drug or medication action, where a drug can be broadly defined as any man-made, natural, or endogenous (from within the body) molecule which exerts a biochemical or physiological effect on the cell, tissue, organ, or organism (sometimes the word pharmacon is used as a term to encompass these endogenous and exogenous bioactive.

Scientists in the Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology Program make use of the knowledge and techniques of biology, chemistry and physics to study the action of drugs, hormones and neurotransmitters on living systems and, more generally, the mechanisms through which signals are recognized and transduced by cells.

The goals of the research in this department are: (1) to identify. Molecular & Cellular Pharmacology. INNOVATION John L. Bixby, Ph.D., Appointed Vice Provost.
